With Starlink satellite internet, check-in or on-site sales can be easily achieved in places where mobile internet is unavailable or weak. It has the added advantage of operating on a completely different frequency from the mobile network, providing reliable internet access even at events where the mobile network may be overloaded due to the large number of participants.
On average, a device provides 50 MB/s of bandwidth, which can be slightly reduced in extremely bad weather conditions (e.g., heavy rain or thunderstorms). Other weather conditions (e.g., cloudy skies, wind, rain, snow) do not affect operation. The device is waterproof and will melt snow in case of snowfall.
Conditions for its operation
A clear view of the sky: It is very important that the device needs a clear view of the sky. The view must not be obstructed by trees or other landmarks; otherwise, the satellite link may not be established. If there are trees in the coverage area, the device should be placed on a pole overhanging trees, on top of a container, or in a remote open area, and the Internet should be cabled to the point of coverage.
Downloaded Starlink mobile app: To activate the device, you need to download a Starlink mobile app to your phone, which can be found in both Android and iOS app stores. The download of the app requires internet access, so if there is no internet at all at the venue, you will need to ensure that the app is downloaded in advance. You will not be able to use Starlink Internet for this!
Power source: The device requires a standard mains power source to operate. The device and its cables, including the power cable, are waterproof, but the power connector must also be waterproof.
Setting up
Setting up Starlink is a few simple steps and can be easily done by anyone. No advanced IT skills are required.
We currently provide 2nd and 3rd generation (Gen 2 and Gen 3) Starlink devices to our partners. The installation of the two types differs in a few points. The pictures below will help you to identify which device has been delivered to you:
