Why and how to track on Meta?
To advertise on Facebook and Instagram cost-effectively and successfully, you need to give Meta the right data and launch your ad campaigns with the right settings.
1. What is the Meta Pixel and why do you need it?
The Meta Pixel is a short piece of code that we add to your Cooltix event page and checkout flow. It’s the “eye” that lets Meta see what happens on the page.
Why use it?
Ad optimization: Instead of showing your ad at random, Meta shows it to the people who are most likely to buy a ticket.
Retargeting: You can show your ad to people who have already viewed your event but haven’t bought a ticket yet.
Audience building: You can create Lookalike Audiences of people who are similar to your past ticket buyers.
With these tools, you can significantly reduce your advertising costs and make your campaigns more effective.
How to find your Pixel ID
Open Meta Events Manager.
Click the green Data Sources icon on the left.
Select your Pixel (or create one with Connect Data Sources).
On the Settings tab, scroll down to the Pixel ID. It’s a string of numbers (e.g. 554037545191864).
Copy this ID and paste it in the Cooltix admin under Marketing > Meta Pixel.
2. Meta Conversions API (CAPI)
Because of stricter browser privacy rules (e.g. Safari, Chrome) and ad blockers, the Pixel alone no longer records every event. This is where the Conversions API comes in.
What’s the difference?
Pixel: The buyer’s browser sends the data (which ad blockers can stop).
CAPI: The Cooltix server sends the data directly to Meta’s server. This is more reliable, more accurate and more robust from a privacy perspective.
Why turn it on?
Fewer lost conversions: You’ll see purchases in Ads Manager that the Pixel alone couldn’t record.
Better ad performance: Meta favors advertisers who send data through both channels (this is called redundant tracking).
Event match quality: CAPI helps Meta identify the buyer even if they aren’t logged in to Facebook in that browser.
How to set it up in Cooltix
For CAPI, you need an access token:
In Events Manager, open your Pixel’s Settings tab.
Scroll down to the Conversions API section.
Click Generate access token.
Copy the long string of characters and paste it into the matching field in Cooltix.
Setting up conversion tracking for Meta ads
As an event organizer, you need to see exactly which of your ads lead to real ticket purchases. Once your Meta Pixel is connected, Cooltix automatically sends Meta the purchase data it needs, but you have to set up in Ads Manager what counts as a successful conversion.
Here are four possible solutions, from the simplest to the most advanced.
Which one should I choose?
Organizer type | Recommended solution | Why |
One event at a time | 2. Standard Purchase | Simple, and measures exact revenue. |
Several events in parallel (2–50) | 3. Custom conversion (cooltix_event_id) | Accurate conversion tracking per event, within the limit of 100. |
Many events in parallel (50+) | 4. Product catalog | No limit, plus advanced retargeting options. |
Solution 1: URL-based conversion (successful payment page)
The simplest method: you tell Meta, “Everyone who reaches the thank-you page is a conversion.”
Only use this solution if you’re just getting started with ads. Solution 2 is just as easy to set up, but it gives you much more accurate tracking.
Pros: Takes 1 minute to set up and needs no technical knowledge.
Cons: It can be inaccurate. For example, it may count a purchase twice when the page is refreshed, and it misses the purchase if the buyer closes the page too early, even though the payment went through. It’s also hard to filter if you have several events on the same domain.
When to choose it: If you’re just getting started with ads.
Setup steps
Go to Events Manager.
Click Custom Conversions (star icon).
Click Create Custom Conversion.
Rule: URL contains cooltix.hu/t/[event-name]/thanks.
Give it a name (e.g. “Concert ticket sales”) and save it.
Solution 2: Using the standard “Purchase” event
This is the Meta Pixel’s default purchase event. We send it automatically from our site’s code, along with other default events (adding to cart, adding payment info, etc.). Apart from connecting your Pixel, you don’t need to set anything up. All you have to do is use it in your ads.
Pros: Automatically tracks the ticket price and currency. Meta’s algorithm is optimized for this event.
Cons: If you advertise several concerts at once, Meta mixes them up. If someone clicks the ad for concert “A” but buys a ticket for concert “B”, Ads Manager counts it as a successful conversion for ad “A”.
When to choose it: If you only have one event at a time, but measuring exact revenue (ROAS) matters to you.
Default events we send:
Page view, Add to cart, Initiate checkout, Add payment info, Purchase (this is usually the one you’ll need).
Parameters sent in the Purchase event: value, num_items, currency, content_type, contents (id, quantity, item_price), cooltix_event_id.
Setup steps
At the ad set level, select Purchase from the list as the conversion event.
That’s it. Cooltix sends the data automatically.
Solution 3: Custom conversion filtered by cooltix_event_id
This is the solution we recommend most for organizers who don’t run a very large number of events at the same time. Purchases are filtered by a unique identifier.
Pros: Highly accurate. A conversion is only counted if the ticket was bought for exactly the event the ad promotes.
Cons: Meta allows a maximum of 100 custom conversions per account, of which 50 can be active at the same time. If you reach the limit, you have to delete old ones. This means you can’t advertise more than 50 events at once.
When to choose it: If you run several (2–20) events in parallel and want to see which ad sells which concert.
Setup steps
Events Manager > Custom Conversions > Create
Event: select Purchase.
Rules: switch URL to Event Parameters.
Select the cooltix_event_id parameter.
Equals: paste the unique ID of your Cooltix event (you’ll find it in your event’s link).
In your ad set, select this custom conversion as the event.
Solution 4: Using a product catalog
The most advanced, scalable solution. In Meta, each concert is handled as a product set and each ticket type as a product.
Pros: No limit on the number of events. It enables dynamic ads (e.g. showing the ticket to people who have already viewed the page), and the reports show everything per event.
Cons: Requires a longer, one-time setup (creating a feed).
When to choose it: If you constantly have a lot of (20+) events or you’re building a professional marketing machine.
Setup steps
Commerce Manager: Create an e-commerce catalog.
Data Sources: Upload your ticket types (manually or by importing them). The id field must match the ticket type ID in Cooltix.
If you enter the data manually, make sure the content ID field matches the ticket type ID in Cooltix. You can copy the ticket type ID from the admin page URL while you’re editing the ticket type.
Or use our Meta product catalog import tool, which creates a CSV file you can import right away.
Sets: Create a product set for each concert, and add its ticket types (products) to it.
Ad: Start a campaign and turn on Advantage+ catalog ads at campaign level.
At the ad set level, select the right product set (event).
